A single axial bellowsis a type of metallic expansion joint designed specifically to absorb axial movements in a piping system.

What is Axial Movement?

Axial movement refers to the expansion or contraction along the length of the pipe due to thermal changes or pressure.

Made from thin-walled convoluted metal (usually stainless steel, Inconel, or other alloys).

Typically has:

End connections Flanges or pipe ends

Single bellows element

May include internal sleeves for flow protection (optional)

Applications

* Thermal expansion compensation in:

* Steam pipelines

Design Features

Absorbs only axial movement

Must be anchored properly to avoid lateral or angular loads

Can be used with tie rods if slight pressure thrust needs to be restrained (not common for single axial type)

Limitations

Not suitable for lateral or angular movements

Requires guides and anchors to function properly and avoid failure
